SPOT Info
Pilots who have SPOT messenger tracking devices can use them for retrieve and tracking purposes during the Sun Valley Nationals :
Before registration:
* Create a new profile.
*
o The Check-in / OK message should be : #00 Pete Pilot Ph 000-000-0000 landed OK
o The Help message should be : #00 Pete Pilot Ph 000-000-0000 landed but needs help
o Add phone numbers of people you want to receive OK / Help messages.
o Leave 1 space open for the retrieve phone number : this will be given to you at registration.
o In the 911 emergency details section, enter the following information: Pete Pilot is a participant in a paragliding competition in Sun Valley, ID. The organizer can be contacted at 208-721-0897.
o Add any other information that emergency services might need - special medical instructions etc.
* Create a shared page.
o The shared page only needs to have 1 day of tracks.
o The shared page should be public.
* Send the full URL of the shared page to the competition organizer.
After registration:
* Edit the competition profile.
o update your pilot number in the OK and Help messages.
o Add the retrieve phone number to the list of contacts in the OK and Help messages.
* Assign the profile to your messenger.
Before launch:
* Turn on your SPOT messenger.
* Turn on tracking.
During flight:
* Interested people can follow your progress and all other pilots progress at the tracking website : http://chorlton.homeip.net/spotmap
* The tracking will be somewhere from real-time to 25 minutes delayed. The SPOT messenger updates every 10 minutes and the website updates every 15 minutes.
After landing:
* If you are OK:
o Pack up your wing.
o Make your way to a road.
o Turn off your SPOT messenger.
o Turn on your SPOT messenger.
o Press the OK button.
o Wait for retrieval ...
* If you need help:
o Turn off your SPOT messenger.
o Turn on your SPOT messenger.
o Press the Help button.
o Call the retrieve / organizer to pass on details.
o Pack up your wing.
o Wait for retrieval ...
* If you are seriously injured:
o Leave your wing open as a sign to other pilots that you are injured.
o Turn off your SPOT messenger.
o Turn on your SPOT messenger.
o Press the 911 button.
o Call 911.
o Call the retrieve / organizer.
o Do not move, wait for assistance.
After retrieval:
* Turn off your SPOT. The batteries last a long time, but best not to waste them.
* Sign in.
